Sometime this month, my brother-in-law counted at least 12 owls on their back fence. Their yard abuts on undeveloped mesa.

Route 0815, starting at the end of the pavement of Water Canyon Road and proceeding up the North Fork trail to about the 7200' level, return at 1200.
Missed No Acorn Woodpeckers seen, even at their mast trees; may have heard one but not at all positive.
Very little water, only a few pools, none more than two feet across. Lots of butterflies.

Description: Immature by its heavily streaked underparts and the eye located well forward in the skull.
Behavior: A Pinyon Jay was hopping around watching me as I watched him. He almost hopped onto this hawk, who of course took a swipe at the jay, but missed.

Description: ID is a wild guess; saw a larger bird soaring, crow-sized or less, black and white pattern.

Vocalizations: By call.

Seen very well.

Description: Yellow belly to the base of the tail, poorly seen.

Watched at 30 yards range for ten minutes.

About a half-mile in, near some stone `gates' (volcanic dikes) across the stream.
Bunting, Lark 1ϕ @Magdalenas: Water Canyon road flats
Description: I am not aware of any records closer than Sevilleta Refuge, but there it was, a female or immature with the huge white wing patch, and the fine streaking on the underparts thickening to make a sort of vertically elongated `stickpin'.
Tanager, Hepatic 2♀ @Magdalenas: North Fork
Description: Large head, lanky build, no wingbars.
