Description: Strange-looking goose with a white head superimposed on a Canada-like body. Size a bit smaller than regular Canadas. Bill rather short. I'll leave the ID of this one to the experts; Gary Parker tells me several of them have been pondering this odd bird. The ID here is just my guess.

"Midway" refers to the area roughly halfway between San Antonio and Luis Lopez. Just north of milepost 55 on NM-1, on the east side of the highway, is a field that has been pretty much a temporary pond since the wet summer. This spot has often been better shorebird habitat this fall than the Bosque Refuge.
