At the south end of the main entrance ramp to Speare Hall there is a large thicket that is a favorite haunt of these sparrows.

Route
1030, at the mouth of Water Canyon. Drive to the end of the road at Copper Canyon.
1100-1440, walk up about a mile up the trail from the end of the road and turn back (around 1330).
1440-1525, drive to #13 trailhead up the Langmuir Road and back.
1625-1805, Bosque del Apache, South and North loops.
North American megafauna life list: Puma concolor. Saw this big tawny cat atop the ridge on the north side of Water Canyon about half a mile above the end of the pavement.
