The first bird was near the entrance booth, a good example of immature plumage. The second was at the Old Rookery at the east end of the center road, and showed a mix of the immature brown and the adult gray.

My title for the first shot is “Yawning flowers”: the yawning pelicans look to me like some kind of pink calla lilies. The second photo shows what I call “skirmish line feeding behavior,” which I first noticed once at Bitter Lake: the birds herd fish into the shallows and then slurp them down.
