Shipman's favorite American cookbooks

I don't really know how you define American food, since I live there. However, these are good sources for classic American dishes:

Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. The definitive American cookbook, in my opinion.
Fannie Farmer Cookbook: My mother swears by it.
Joy of Cooking. For those who want to escape from the world of macaroni and cheese and try something a bit more Continental.
