Shipman's favorite California restaurants
I've spent 14 years in Silicon Valley, and I didn't do much home
cooking. So this is list is the creme de la creme of the
places I've tried. I'd be very surprised if you went to any of
these places and weren't ecstatic.
- Henry Chung's Hunan, 924 Sansome, San Francisco (Hunan)
- Empress of India, Santa Clara (Indian) [still open as of Feb. 1999]
- Lion and Compass, Sunnyvale (nouvelle indescribable)
- Le Mouton Noir, Saratoga (French)
- Galano's, Sunnyvale (creative Italian)
- Scott's, Palo Alto (fish)
- Dittmer's Wursthaus, Mountain View (deli)
- Mango Cafe, Palo Alto (Jamaican/Trinidadian)
- Jing Jing, Palo Alto (Chinese fire)
- We Be Sushi, Sunnyvale (I kid you not. The owner, Kaziyoshi, has been
preparing sushi for well over thirty years, and is my favorite itamae
in all the world. If you go, please mention that my web page sent you.)
Disclaimer: I haven't lived in the Bay Area since
1993. If you try any of these places, please send me feedback.
