Abstract: This informal presentation will discuss several computer abuse cases at a university. These cases dealt with allegations of using computers where individuals were forging their identity, misusing credit cards, or using email to harass others. Those who are interested in the technical aspects of computer forensics as well as the challenges of applying a sensible set of ethics to an investigation may find this discuss enlightening. |
Shaun Cooper, PhD., is a Professor of Practice in Computer Science at New Mexico State University. Dr. Cooper graduated from the University of New Mexico with a BS in Computer Science in 1984, an MS in CS from University of Texas, Austin and 1988, and a PhD in Computer Science from New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2000. Dr. Cooper worked at Information Technologies at NMSU from 1988 -2013 where he worked through the ranks from a Systems Programmer I to Associate Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer from 2008-2013 where he manged a professional staff of 100, a student staff of 80, and an annual budget of $13M. Dr. Cooper became a College Teaching Professor of Computer Science in 2014. Dr. Cooper teaches courses in Computer Architecture, Graphics, Compiler Construction, Programming Languages, Data Structures, Parallel Programming, Operating Systems, and most importantly Computer Ethics. In 2019, Dr. Cooper was selected for the NMSU Donald C. Roush Outstanding Teaching Award.
