Look for problems in what you read.
Make your own assessments of the sources' research questions and methods of obtaining answers.
Do your sources provide adequate motivation?

Classify each of the cited works as primary, secondary, or tertiary
For each tertiary source: can you upgrade to a primary or secondary? Example: you cite an arXiv source, but it is a paper that was subsequently published as a journal article. Replace your arXiv source in your bibliography with the journal article which is a peer-reviewed secondary source.
