It hasn't frozen yet, so...
Stephen Kobourov visiting Friday, talk 2:30-3:20pm, room TBA
This guy is a big deal. His research is mainly in visualization. I think he is driving his wife and dog out. I would likely strongly encourage participation in this talk, and if anyone wants to meet with him after the talk, or join us for dinner, please let me know.
2020-2021 Assessment Status
F20/S21 assessments that I have:
  • F20/S21 assessments that I am missing
    • CSE 122 - promised by Dr. Tong
    • CSE/IT 326 - promised by Dr. Shin
    • CSE 423 - promised by Dr. Jeffery
    • IT 481/2 - nobody promised. Frank and Subhasish?
    • MGT - more broadly.
  • IT Program Topics

Catalog Change to remove C or Better Requirement

CS had this requirement removed, how's about IT?

Catalog Change to Reflect MGT 472 Requirement

...with the following fix to the IT BS sample curriculum:

    Fix Either 382 Prereq and/or 481 Prereq

We don't have to all agree with every decision, but we do have to fix our curriculum's broken pain points. Possible motions:

Proposal to Drop "Secure" from 481/482

Frank or Subhasish make the argument "for" this change. Someone else feel free to make the argument "against" this change.

(tabled the following. Frank and Subhasish will supply new language.):

IT 481 / IT 482, Senior Secure System Design Project, 3 cr, 3 lab hrs ea
    Prerequisite: IT 326, 330, 353 and 373 with a grade of C- or higher
A substantial system and security-relateddesign and implementation project taken over 2 regular semesters, under the supervision of a faculty member. In addition to software design and project management, considers major design facets such as hardware platforms, resource requirements, interfaces, file formats, protocols, security, deployment and updates.

    IT BA

After consulting with many faculty, here's Jeffery's evolving thinking on the IT BA.
    Not a Python-only degree
Graduates not as marketable; too many new courses. So, Python-first, not Python-only.
    Not a less-programming-than-CS degree
Python+Java instead of C+Java does not mean coding skills magically take fewer semesters to learn.
We still can't add a lot of new courses for this
Like, one, once a year would be good. We can tweak existing courses, but not to make program weaker.
Not-Calculus and Not 113+122 is plenty differentiated from IT BS
The [current Jeffery] IT BA strawperson looks like this:

IT 117, Intermediate Programming in Python, 3 cr, 3 cl hrs
Prerequisite: IT 107 with a grade of C or higher, Math 1240
Using objects, lists, tuples, and dictionaries to implement data structures such as trees and graphs. Algorithms for sorting, searching, and other fundamental operations. Introduction to mathematical foundations for analysis of iterative and recursive algorithms and for basic correctness proofs. Introductory analysis of algorithms. Sequences, series, sockets, and processes.

    To sum up:
