Recap of Exporation Day

We had a good turnout, perhaps half as big as predicted by admissions from sign-ups. Things to do different and better next year:

have the opening session (11:30 or whatever) be an all-hands meeting
zoom together two or more classrooms to handle overflow
faculty who are presenting on topics introduce themselves in ~2 min. so folks see everyone in the main meeting, before we split out into separate rooms
need some fun CS stuff, not just professors with powerpoints

Are CS students ever allowed to switch to [S/]U?

We have a student trying to save their GPA by switching to S/U with the intention of taking a U.
Our department catalog language says courses must be taken for a letter grade.
General catalog language says S/U requires consent of advisor, and department(s).
So at present by default: advisors can say no. Or I can say no. Or we can take it case by case.
Do we have a program or department standing policy? -- happy to play bad cop

Do CYBS courses count as CS Tech Electives?

The catalog says only CS courses count as Tech Electives.
Earlier this semester I had a student asking about Math as CS Tech Electives.
Some CYBS courses are crosslisted with CS and some are not.

2020-2021 Assessment Status

Review the CS draft assessment report.
IT. Check whether I've received all assessments required
Last year there was a streamlined IT assessment proposed and approved that included IT 321, 326, 373, 382, 462, 466.
One of the biggest issues is whether the overall course assessment can be used, or whether we need to track IT majors separately. I only see one reason to track IT major separately: if they are having catastrophic outcomes in certain courses, they might be hidden in the statistics of a shared course assessment.
Subhasish and Frank: can you help with 373, 462, and 466? We can review offline.

Technical Electives: a sequence of 12 hours of computer science, information technology, or management courses numbered 300 or higher, pre-approved by the student's advisor and an IT Program Coordinator, with no more than one course numbered IT 485. Students are encouraged to select a coherent set of courses as technical electives that will prepare them for a specific focus in their career.
