Graduate Certificate in CS Education - Straw Person

• Goal: provide dual-credit teaching capability for H.S. CS teachers
• Motive: Training HS CS teachers also will build relationships and create pathways to NMT CSE for their HS students
• Requirement: 18-credits of graduate coursework

Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Education

The Computer Science Education Graduate Certificate offers post-baccalaureate professionals an opportunity to build and strengthen their capabilities in computer science for K-12 educational work. The 19 credit hours of graduate coursework required for the certificate include the foundational overview of computer science as well as courses on how to teach introductory and lower-division computer science subjects.

Requirements for the Computer Science Education Graduate Certificate are:

1. ST 5xx, Computer Science for Educators (3cr)
2. CSE 501, Introduction to Computer Science for Teachers (3 cr)
3. CSE 502, Introduction to Programming for Teachers (5 cr)
4. CSE 503, Algorithms and Data Structures for Teachers (4 cr)
5. CSE 504, Object Oriented Programming for Teachers (4 cr)

Notes: would a prefix CSED or CST be viable? Should ST 5xx be cross-listed?

Descriptions of New Courses: CSE 501, Introduction to Computer Science for Teachers (3 cr)
Prerequisite: ST 527
Study of the curriculum for introducing computer science to non-programmers. Attends lectures and completes homeworks for CSE 101, with additional lectures and homeworks on instructional techniques. May not be applied towards the BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science or IT.

CSE 502, Introduction to Programming for Teachers (5 cr)
Prerequisite: Math 1240 or instructor permission
Study of the curriculum for introducing computer programming. Attends lectures and completes homeworks for CSE 107 or 113, with additional lectures and homeworks dedicated to pedagogy. May not be applied towards the BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science or IT.

CSE 503, Algorithms and Data Structures for Teachers (4 cr)
Prerequisite: CSE 502
Study of the curriculum for introducing algorithms and data structures. Attends lectures and completes homeworks for CSE 117 or 122, with additional lectures and homeworks dedicated to pedagogy. May not be applied towards the BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science or IT.

CSE 504, Object Oriented Programming for Teachers (4 cr)
Prerequisite: CSE 503
Study of the curriculum for introducing object oriented programming. Attends lectures and completes homeworks for CSE 213, with additional lectures and homeworks dedicated to pedagogy. May not be applied towards the BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computer Science or IT.

What else needs to be disposed?

This Fall's space crunch

• We will need to find an office for Suraj. By default that would be 217, meaning we'd need more storage space for BTM.
• No one (grad students) seems to want to be housed in 227. I am thinking I need to lay out $$$ for some cubicles, although I'd rather just build cubicles out of Everblocks, or 3D print some.
• Ask property if they have partitions/cubicles
