Monday 8/28: our next CS Research Seminar

special guest Dr. Vakhtang Poutkaradze will speak on "Lie-Poisson Neural Networks".

• Please attend the talk if you can, and encourage your grad students to attend the talk.
• More broadly, what do we need to do to establish a culture among the graduate students of attending all the colloquia?

Graduate Applications

Please review 1 PhD, 2 MS applications pending. Also the 1 cybersecurity certificate I sent back to faculty. What are the admissions criteria for the cyber certificate?

Clubs

As of 1pm Tuesday, I have the following counts of students' interest:

• 8 in a cybersecurity club
• 7 in an AIML club
• 6 in ACM
• 6 in GameDev
• 4 in a Maker/Modeler club
• 3 in Functional Programming
• 2 in Logic Programming
• 1 in DECS
• 1 in Investment club

The plan is to hand the list of Cybersecurity club names to Lorie. For the rest, I will put the interested students in touch with each other. Are you interested in being a faculty sponsor of one of these clubs? If so, which one? There are multiple possible mergers, and there is no club without enough sufficient interest.

Assessment

• We need all assessments for last academic year by September 1 in order to convene committees to discuss assessments during September.

Technical Electives Form

The form is on the registrar forms site, under intent to graduate forms, under Elective/Technical Elective Designation and Degree Completion Advisor Approval Form

• Recommendation is that you ask students to start filling it out when they start taking technical electives, since technical electives must be approved.
• Advisor does not need to ask for my approval for regular CSE graded 300-level courses and above; ask my approval for anything that deviates from the norm.
