CSE Chair's Sysadmin Tasklist
"Special Projects" above and beyond normal sysadmin office hours.
Last updated 4/4/25.
- Debug/repair or replace conference room table microphone setup.
If debug: individually test microphones and buy replacements as needed.
Test cabling from table to computer, is power to mixer missing etc.
- Add sensors and a status website that can tell us when interior doors are
unlocked and/or propped open, e.g. for 233 or 221 or 213.
- Add a separate print server machine that can print to the department
printer.
Fix it so that the Department Printer can be printed from authenticated
CS faculty/staff/TAs/RAs on NMT-Weblogin. Fix it so that we (CSE) has
accounting of the pages printed on that printer.
Control access, for example, of who can print in color.
- Is it possible from CS space to add cameras for additional useful
portions of Cramer?
- Cramer 227. Make it more usable and useful
- re-arrange furniture, request hardware as needed to partition
space if further partitioning is desired.
- Add additional Linux machines.
- Put up on our website information regarding how best to connect to
department login services.
- Touchscreen Table: put it on some wheels,
or perhaps a low rolling dolly.
- Touchscreen Table: check its worn-from-dragging power cord, replace if needed,
possibly with something more protected. Maybe drill a hole and mount a 3-prong
power slot so we can plug-in in a more normal way.
- Modify the outside-conference-room digital monitor
so that it
serves up content from a public URL/location,
such as www.cs.nmt.edu/announce/, or selected CSE Discord channels
such as Events and Job-Announcements.
- replace the CSE office digital photoframe with a setup equivalent to
the outside-conference room digital monitor. Shop and buy the largest
vertical-oriented monitor that will fit in the windowsill. Stick a Raspberry Pi or some such on it.
- stand up and maintain
infohost.cs.nmt.edu
in a way that it stays on and available; provide credentials to
Dr. J
- stand up and maintain mgmt.cs.nmt.edu and it.cs.nmt.edu; why does
it.cs.nmt.edu forward over to account.cs.nmt.edu? Actually, there
was previously an mgmt.nmt.edu that ITC is waiting for us to takeover.
Work with ITC to direct mgmt.nmt.edu to mgt.cs.nmt.edu
- implement a server checker that notifies us (sysadmins and dr. j)
when CSE systems go down, especially the cs web server.
