  • Cyber Security Training For Teachers And First Responders (Pending NSF Support $ 222,753). ( 2006-2008)
    New Mexico Tech (NMT), a NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) since 2002, in pursuance of NSF SFS Program Solicitation (NSF 06-507), proposes to undertake the following Capacity Building activities: curriculum development and development of IA training material. Impacts of the proposed activity enhance IA skills of underrepresented population and enhanced IA skills of first responders. (2006)

  • NMT IASP: New Mexico Tech Information Assurance Scholarship Program(Pending Department of Defense Support $318,509 ). ( 2006-2007)

  • CAUSE (Cisco’s Academic University Support for Security Education) (Funded by CISCO $135,141.00). (2005)
    New Mexico Tech proposes to use the equipment that Cisco provides to carry out an integrated program of carefully-designed research, education, and training activities with multiple objectives aimed at advancing NMT students, the Native American communities and other minority groups toward the Presidential Decision Directive 63 visions, as follows: research to advance cyber security knowledge and capability, education to promote awareness, and training for workforce and economic Development.

  • Pueblo ITEST of New Mexico (Funded by NSF Award #0525261, Awarded Amount: $1165769). (2005-2008)
    This project is a collaboration among the Santa Fe Indian School, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and local school districts partnering to provide students, teachers, and tribal mentors with experiences using GPS/GIS, mathematical modeling and computer graphics. The work is based on a model in the Santa Fe school in which curriculum is designed around problems and practices in traditional Pueblo Indian culture and life. Selected students and teachers will participate in a summer program, with coordinated follow-up sessions during the following school year. Students will be assigned internships in a pueblo community in a tribal department, working with a community mentor as an IT specialist. In addition, five advanced students will take a college-level course in IT. Evaluation will take advantage of both mainstream and traditional pueblo indicators of success, including benefit to the community, students' allegiance to their pueblo identity, the development and use of IT curriculum in schools, and college application and matriculation rates. Dissemination likewise will address mainstream audiences (through professional conferences and journals) and traditional cultures (through tribal organizations and web pages).

    This Forum was hosted by NM Tech at Macey Center on the campus in Socorro and sponsored by the ITC, NM Tech, the OCIO, and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security.

    New Mexico Tech (NMT), an NSA-designated CAE/IAE, proposes to undertake the following Capability Building activities in conjunction with its separately submitted Scholarship Track proposal. The efforts are aimed at maximizing the scholarship program’s impact, to promote information assurance (IA) awareness at the secondary education and community college levels, and to increase national capability for the education of IA professionals.
