Official new employee orientation tour of the Array. I did not ascend into the telescope with the others, and I certainly didn't climb up into the dish and peer over the edge; with my acrophobia that'd lead to twenty years of nightmares, like the time I visited the Empire State Building at age 12. My official excuse was that I was wearing unapproved footgear (my usual combat model Birkenstocks with the Vibram soles). Oh, darn, how I suffered, roving around the site looking for birds while Rick Perley talked for three hours about the electronics.

Presumptive, based on a couple of what I thought were their characteristic little 'prrrt' buzz notes. Habitat is pretty much flat out there but I heard these near some piles of dirt and rock, with some big boulders, rather similar to the location west of the Fine Arts Building at NM Tech where Rock Wrens hang out.

I'm not at all confident about this call! I'm guessing a lightish immature Swainson's based on a few dark spots around the upper breast, and the dark bars on the underwing on the leading edge of the underwing distal to the wrist. The wing posture in the first photo is just weird, with the big bend at the wrists and the pointy wing tips made me wonder if I were even in the right family.
