At some later date the golf course was expanded and renamed
Rockwind Community Links. Good name. Plenty rocks. Plenty
wind. Plenty thermals, hence beloved of gliders and
Mississippi Kites.

One of the more frustrating excursions of recent memory. Very
wet weekend because of the remnants of Hurricane Odile. At
around 4am my cell phone beeped me in my Carlsbad motel room
to tell me there were flash flood warnings everywhere.
Attempted to reach Rattlesnake Springs, but the road was
closed due to the Black River running across it; the ranches
on the far side were cut off for some time. I went down to
look at the torrent and found an alarming amount of damage to
the vegetation up to eight or ten feet above the channel.
Went to Hobbs hoping it was drier; it wasn't.
At that point a wood screw embedded in a tire was causing a
leak that obliged me to reinflate every 100 miles or so, and
it's not so easy to find a service station with a working
coin-op tire pump in southeast New Mexico. So I decided to
give up my plan to return via Las Cruces and check Holloman
and the big reservoirs, and just went straight home after a
quick swing through Bosque del Apache.
