The last three photos show the classic dark-phase adult Red-tail in flight. The underparts are quite black except for the remiges and rectrices. I've lightened the patagial area a fair amount just to bring out a little detail there.

This spot reminds me of the first Say's Phoebe nest I ever found, which was a half-round indentation in a cliff where a round rock had fallen out, about 3' above the sandy floor of Nogal Canyon west of San Antonio. The site here is also in a vertical cliff.

I've hearing for some time that this site has Prairie Dogs, but today was the first time I've actually seen them there. They were in small numbers in the banks northeast of the small pond at the north end of the main marsh. For the record, there are said to be both Prairie Dogs and Burrowing Owls behind the large Walmart there, but I haven't actually checked there yet.
