1100, at Eli's Cabin around 8500' on the North Fork road.
1130, head back down.
There's a story here (there's always a story). I used to
be able to drive to what we called “Second Cabin”
back in the late 1980s when they actually bladed the road
every year or two. No more! The wet fall of 2014 washed
it out horribly in many places.
(Just for the record, First Cabin was a short distance up
the road from the El Tigre Fork (340150n 1070913w), but
nowadays I can't even find the debris pile where it used
to be.)
Today my friend David “Packrat” Hunter was
able to drive me all the way up to the cabin in his
high-clearance Jeep. While there, two ladies from Tom
Kelly's ranch showed up on an ATV to drop off salt blocks
for their cattle. They told me that they called this
Eli's Cabin, after a recluse who settled at this spot in
the 1920s, initially living in a barrel, and eventually
building the cabin where he lived for decades.
