Falcon, Peregrine

Description from Mark Pendleton: Seen perched on top of power line pole on US 82 just a short ways NNW of the intersection of 82 and US 54/70 a few miles N of Alamogordo NM. Dark falcon with light underparts showing dark mottling. Had distinctive Peregrine "helmet head" look (the moustachial stripe being more of a blackish wedge; nape and crown also very dark with light area between nape and moustachial wedge) looked like it was wearing a Roman soldier's helmet minus the top plume.

Sapsucker, Yellow-bellied

• From C. J. Goin: Aaron Lucas and myself had two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers on the La Luz Christmas Bird count held on 1-2-2016. The first was a male just S of SR 82 in the town of High Rolls. It was a male sapsucker with black wings with white coverts, extensive black and white barring on the back, a red crown, a red throat with a complete black border and a white nape. A photo is attached. Later that same day we had another Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in the town of La Luz. It was a female: a sapsucker with black wings with white coverts, extensive white and black and white barring on the back, a red crown, a white throat with a complete black border, and a white nape. I was unable to get a photograph.
